The idea
Volume of an irregular object equals the rise in a liquid's level once it is fully submerged, since it displaces its own volume.
In practice
Lowering a stone into a cylinder reading 25.0 mL raises it to 32.0 mL, so the stone's volume is 7.0 mL.
