When a B cell's receptor binds its matching antigen, it proliferates through clonal selection, producing antibody-secreting plasma cells and memory cells that persist afterward.
In practice
Clonal selection multiplies only the specific B cell lineage that matched, not the whole B cell population.

Antibody secretion begins only after activation — a resting B cell secretes none on its own.
