Genotype and Phenotype, Locked Terms

This video presents the same text shown beside it, spoken and on screen. It adds nothing the text does not say.

State

A genotype is an organism's allele combination at a locus; a phenotype is the observable trait it produces, and this course fixes both terms.

Show

Two pea plants with different genotypes, YY and Yy, can share the identical yellow-seed phenotype.

Watch for

Inferring a genotype directly from a dominant phenotype is the mistake — a yellow-seeded plant may be YY or Yy, hence testcross 1037.
