In a zero-sum game one number scores the whole outcome: one player — MAX — tries to raise it, and the other — MIN — tries to lower it.

A win worth plus one for the first player is worth minus one to the second; their interests are exact opposites.
Watch for
The names label roles, not people — whoever moves at a fork controls that fork's choice.
