The idea
A refrain is a line or phrase returning at intervals, usually at stanza ends. Unit six defined it, the glossary having no headword. In a fixed form the refrain is often the requirement itself, as the villanelle's two repeating lines are.
In practice
The refrain can be the requirement.
Where people slip
The glossary omits the term.
