Analyzing and Interpreting Literature / Unit 1 AIL 0004 short lesson, about 20 seconds
The Three Tradition Bands
Captions available
The idea
British and postcolonial writing carries forty to fifty percent. American writing carries forty to fifty percent. Works in translation carry three to ten percent. The bands overlap the genre bands, so one sonnet counts as poetry and as British at once.
In practice
The bands cross, they do not add.
Where people slip
British is half the paper, not a corner.
