Trap Two: Right Sense, Wrong Sentence
Captions available
The idea
A harder distractor gives a sense the word genuinely carries in the period, but not in this clause. Period knowledge alone will not defeat it, because the option is historically correct. Only reading it back into the sentence exposes the mismatch, which is what the substitution test is for.
In practice
Historically right, locally wrong.
Where people slip
Period knowledge will not settle this one.
