Analyzing and Interpreting Literature / Unit 14   AIL 1338 short lesson, about 20 seconds

Prologue and Epilogue

The idea

A prologue opens a play by addressing the audience directly, and an epilogue closes it the same way. The glossary defines neither. Faustus has both, and a prologue is where a play may state its own theme, which makes it as quotable as a chorus.

In practice

The play addressing the house.
