The idea

The line is Latin, meaning run slowly, slowly, horses of the night, and it is borrowed from Ovid, where a lover wishes a night with his mistress longer. Faustus uses a line about pleasure to beg for delay of damnation, which is an allusion doing savage work.

In practice

A lover's line, begging for delay.

Where people slip

The source makes the line worse.
