The idea

The glossary gives hamartia as a term from Greek tragedy literally meaning missing the mark, first used of an archer. It came to signify a tragic flaw, especially a misperception, a lack of insight, or a blindness that ironically results from one's own strengths.

In practice

Missing the mark, as an archer does.

Where people slip

Often a blindness born of strength.
