Captions available
The idea
Samson Occom, a Mohegan who became a Presbyterian minister, wrote A Short Narrative of My Life in seventeen sixty-eight. It opens saying he was born a heathen and raised in heathenism until he was sixteen or seventeen, among a people living by hunting and fishing.
In practice
A conversion narrative written from inside.
Where people slip
The opening adopts the missionaries' vocabulary deliberately.
