The idea

The witness describes Hansberry's play of nineteen fifty-nine as revealing racism as a continuing undercurrent, in which a Black family meets a threatening welcome committee when it tries to move into a white neighbourhood. She was twenty-nine when the play opened, and died at thirty-four.

In practice

A family moves, and a committee arrives.

Where people slip

The threat is delivered as a welcome.
