The idea

Porter's "The Jilting of Granny Weatherall" follows an old woman's dying consciousness back to the wedding day she was abandoned on. Boyle's "The White Horses of Vienna" sets a doctor's household against the politics arriving in Austria in the nineteen thirties.

In practice

A deathbed memory; a household and a politics.

Where people slip

Both stories work through a limited consciousness.
