American Government / Unit 7 Gov 325 short lesson, about 20 seconds
Select, Joint, and Conference Committees

The idea
Beyond standing committees, Congress uses select committees for special purposes, joint committees across chambers, and conference committees to reconcile bill versions.
In practice
When the chambers pass different texts, a conference committee produces the single compromise version.
Where people slip
Conference output still needs both chambers' votes — reconciliation is not enactment.
