Finding an Inverse
Captions available
The idea
To find an inverse, write y = f(x), swap x and y, and solve for y. The graph of the inverse reflects the graph of f over the line y = x.
In practice
y = 2x + 3; swap: x = 2y + 3; solve: y = (x − 3)/2.
Where people slip
The domain and range swap too: f's outputs become f⁻¹'s inputs.
