The idea
For ax² + bx + c with a ≠ 1, find two numbers with product ac and sum b, split the middle term, and factor in pairs.
In practice
2x² + 7x + 3: 6 and 1 split it: 2x(x + 3) + 1(x + 3) = (2x + 1)(x + 3).
