Evaluate grouping symbols first, then exponents and roots, then multiplication and division from left to right, then addition and subtraction from left to right.
In practice
6 + 2 × 3² = 6 + 2 × 9 = 6 + 18 = 24.
Where people slip
Multiplication and division share a level and go left to right: 12 ÷ 3 × 2 = 8.
