ACT Preparation / Unit 6 ACT 0518 short lesson, about 20 seconds
What a Conclusion Does
Captions available
The idea
A conclusion reinforces the point and leaves the reader something to think about. It may summarize and restate the thesis, draw a conclusion, speculate, or recommend action.
In practice
"Plant one tree this spring, and the next generation inherits its shade" recommends action.
Where people slip
A conclusion that opens a new topic, instead of completing the old one, fails its job.
