ACT Preparation / Unit 19 ACT 1810 short lesson, about 20 seconds
Direct and Inverse Relationships
Captions available
The idea
In a direct relationship, two quantities increase together; in an inverse relationship, one increases as the other decreases.
In practice
A spring stretching more under more mass is direct; filling time falling as pump rate rises is inverse.
Where people slip
Direct variation from unit eleven, y = kx, is the strict case; data can rise together without being proportional.
