SSS, SAS, ASA and AAS

Captions available

The idea

Two triangles are congruent if three pairs of sides match (SSS), two sides and the angle between them (SAS), or two angles and a side in corresponding position (ASA, AAS).

In practice

Two triangles with sides 5 and 7 enclosing a 40° angle are congruent by SAS.

Where people slip

In SAS, the angle must sit between the two sides.
