The idea
A polynomial of degree n has exactly n zeros, counting multiplicity and complex zeros, and at most n − 1 turning points.
In practice
A degree-4 polynomial has 4 zeros in all and can turn at most 3 times.
Where people slip
Some zeros may be complex, so the graph can show fewer than n x-intercepts.
