The idea
To solve an equation like x^(m/n) = k, raise both sides to the reciprocal power, n/m, and check the result.
In practice
x^(3/2) = 27 gives x = 27^(2/3) = 9. Check: 9^(3/2) = 27.
Where people slip
When m is even, as in x^(2/3) = 4, include both signs: x = ±8.
